Sofis Solutions Joins the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs)

Montevideo, November 19, 2021.

Today, Sofis Solutions announced its adherence to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), an initiative launched in 2010 by the UN Global Compact and UN Women. Based on international labor standards and human rights, the WEPs guide companies in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women in the workplace, marketplace, and community.

This initiative provides a practical framework for the private sector to implement and promote gender-focused best practices across all areas of business management. Adopting the WEPs follows a six-step approach: consider, commit, activate, engage, sustain, and report.

The WEPs consist of seven Principles that guide companies in establishing or reinforcing practices, projects, and policies aimed at closing the gender pay gap, providing paid parental leave, promoting equal professional opportunities, and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment in the workplace.

Sofis Solutions strengthens its focus on gender equality through concrete and measurable actions in the short and medium term. These actions are detailed in its 2020-2021 Progress Communication submitted to the UN Global Compact, including:

  • Maintaining pay equity and fostering career growth opportunities regardless of gender.
  • Providing continuous training opportunities for all employees to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.
  • Promoting gender balance in leadership positions within the organization.
  • Integrating a gender perspective in projects through gender workshops that analyze and observe how gender inequalities influence opportunities for women and men, thereby creating a comprehensive view of the project’s direction.

In recent months, Sofis Solutions has worked on a project addressing political gender-based violence against women, developing and implementing a web portal to disseminate and consult information on the issue, understand existing laws that guarantee a life free from violence in public and private spheres, and access reporting mechanisms and protection measures for victims. This project aligns with SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, and SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies.

The company emphasizes that it will continue collaborating with stakeholders, monitoring and reporting progress on these practices to empower women within its sphere of influence and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to gender equality.

Currently, more than 5,000 companies across different sectors have joined this global initiative, seeking to generate a positive impact and contribute to reducing the gender gap while promoting a more just, dignified, prosperous, and equal society.
