The Teens Ready Platform will help young people from the Northern Triangle strengthen their skills

Montevideo, October 14, 2024.

The Teens Ready platform will support the Teens Ready Life Skills Program, allowing the management of educational content and tracking the progress of activities undertaken by young people.

World Vision International has various educational programs and projects focused on developing skills and competencies for young people in Latin America. One of its projects is Teens Ready, an intervention model that supports adolescents in strengthening their skills through formal or alternative learning tools to prepare them for social integration.

As part of the program’s implementation, a responsive web platform is under construction for the Teens Ready Educational Curriculum Program, managed by the consulting firm Sofis Solutions. The platform will support the Teens Ready life skills program, managing educational content, tracking young people's progress according to the program curriculum, and enabling interaction with users.

Initially, the platform will be available for young people residing in the Northern Triangle countries of Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras) to use and develop skills through gamification. Platform users will include administrators (World Vision staff managing the platform and content), mentors (Teens Ready Program tutors), and participants (youth aged 12 to 17).

The platform design is based on the methods and materials of the Teens Ready model, which aims to keep young people motivated to remain active in the educational system through a system of games, competitions, and rewards that make learning engaging and participatory.

The platform will offer an accessible user experience, designed for easy and intuitive navigation and interaction with the Educational Curriculum content. UX elements considered include usability, accessibility, functionality, innovation, design, and navigation.

The Teens Ready platform consists of eight modules that address the needs of users (administrators and participants):

  1. User accounts: allows platform administrators to create user accounts for young people, where they can personalize their profile by adding elements such as an avatar.
  2. Points and rewards system: grants points and rewards (badges, medals, certificates, and other incentives) that young people can earn by completing tasks and activities according to the achievements defined in the World Vision curriculum.
  3. Levels and progress: allows young people to advance and unlock new content and activities as they complete tasks and achieve the objectives of the program curriculum.
  4. Competencies and challenges: includes trivia questions (quizzes, word searches, puzzles, etc.), skill-based games, and creative challenges for young people to compete with friends and other users to earn badges in competitions and challenges.
  5. Messaging and alerts system: sends messages to participants based on various situations, for example: upon submitting work, reaching a program milestone, or other types of notifications.
  6. Feedback and comments: provides feedback when young people complete tasks.
  7. Community: allows interaction among young people through the formation of a community, where they can collaborate, complete team challenges, etc.
  8. Reports and queries dashboard: administrators can view activity logs, see the number of users, and monitor progress according to activities.

“This is a project with a social focus at a crucial stage for youth development. It is very exciting that we can contribute to building a solution that facilitates achieving the objectives of the Teens Ready program and impacts its users and beneficiaries.”, said Gilberto Mendoza, project coordinator on behalf of Sofis Solutions.
