Sustainable Digital Transformation: The #GreenSofis Path

Montevideo, June 25, 2025.

"Technology is a means; the true goal is to transform the way we create value for people and the planet." —Leading Digital (Westerman, Bonnet & McAfee, 2014).

Digitization is no longer optional: governments, companies, and social organizations adopt it to be more efficient and better respond to citizen expectations. However, without an ethical and environmental compass, the same technology that drives progress can widen social gaps or create new environmental problems.

Sofis Solutions took on this challenge with #GreenSofis, our strategy for ensuring that every digital project generates economic, social, and environmental value in a balanced way. The theoretical framework is based on the model proposed by Leading Digital (2014), which incorporates the critical pillars of every successful digital transformation, as well as the capabilities required for it. #GreenSofis expands this vision with an ESG approach.

The authors describe three main pillars:

  • User experience
  • Operational processes
  • Business models

and organizational capabilities that drive transformation, such as leadership and digital talent.

In this way, the model adds a sustainability focus to each point:

#GreenSofis is structured around three main components that allow sustainability to be brought from discourse into practice, integrating it into every project and the culture of the organization:

  • #GreenSofis Methodology: It is the methodological framework that guides the development of digital solutions with an ESG approach, from the design stage to delivery and operation. It integrates sustainability criteria into every phase of the software life cycle, ensuring:
  • Accessible and inclusive design.
  • Energy efficiency in interfaces and backend.
  • Low carbon footprint process modeling.
  • Ethical use of data and responsible artificial intelligence.
  • Environmental and social impact indicators.

This methodology adapts both to new projects and to technology modernization processes.

  • GreenPath: It is the internal action plan that transforms Sofis Solutions' operations and decisions to align with sustainable management. It includes:
  • Conscious choice of suppliers and technologies.
  • Progressive migration to green infrastructures (hosting, cloud).
  • Measurement of its own digital footprint (sites, solutions, services).
  • Promotion of a culture of energy efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible mobility.

GreenPath ensures that sustainability is consistent not only in what we do for our clients but also in how we operate as a company.

  • Sustainable Digital Transformation Workshops: These are participatory and interdisciplinary meetings where the Sofis team explores, debates, and redefines organizational and technological practices with a sustainability perspective. Their objectives are:
  • Strengthen the #GreenSofis culture as part of the company's identity.
  • Generate collective commitment to ESG values.
  • Establish cross-cutting principles to be applied in all projects.
  • Listen to and value all voices on the team, from technical to operational.

These workshops are a tool for cultural change management that turn sustainability into a daily practice.

Digital transformation is not about incorporating the latest technology but rethinking how we use it. With #GreenSofis, Sofis Solutions proposes that it is possible to achieve the benefits described by Leading Digital while at the same time reducing social gaps and environmental footprint.
