Sofis Solutions presented its seventh Communication on Progress (COP) of the United Nations Global Compact

Montevideo, October 28, 2021.

The United Nations (UN) Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, with over 12,000 signatories from 160 countries committed to aligning their operations and business strategies with the Ten Universal Principles. These principles focus on the areas of Human Rights, Labor Standards, Environment, and Anti-Corruption, aiming to foster collective collaboration to develop and scale up solutions to address global challenges.

Sofis Solutions has submitted its Communication on Progress (CoP) for the seventh consecutive year, covering the 2020–2021 period. The report compiles actions taken and progress made in relation to the implementation of the Ten Universal Principles promoted by the UN Global Compact, in the areas of Human Rights, Labor Standards, Environment, and Anti-Corruption. In addition, the report includes contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which define global priorities and aspirations for the year 2030.

Since 2013, the company has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, committing to operate sustainably in order to contribute to a new development model. The goal is that this model be replicated by other organizations, generating responsible business practices combined with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to create a better future.

This is why Sofis Solutions' Social Responsibility (SR) is based on three principles:

  • Primacy of the Ten Universal Principles of the United Nations Global Compact.
  • Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
  • Involvement of the entire organization to comply with the Universal Principles and to work towards the fulfillment of the SDGs.

In 2020, Sofis Solutions adopted the SDG Compass methodology, developed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the United Nations Global Compact, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). This guide helps private-sector companies understand how to align their strategies, measure, and manage their contributions to the SDGs. The guide is based on five steps that assist companies in maximizing their contributions to the 2030 Agenda: Understanding the SDGs, Defining Priorities, Setting Goals, Integrating Sustainability, and Reporting & Communicating Progress on the SDGs.

In this context, Sofis Solutions identified key priorities to lead, collaborate, follow, and amplify efforts aligned with the Global Compact:

  • Lead: Sofis Solutions is committed to responsible leadership, guiding its team to face and overcome daily management challenges. The company focuses efforts on generating actions relevant to its sector, aligned with the Global Compact’s Universal Principles, and contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
  • Collaborate: The company works together with other leading organizations in the business sector to create synergy and combine efforts to achieve a shared goal and transform people's lives.
  • Follow and Amplify: Sofis Solutions will continue contributing and joining forces through partnerships with other sector-related organizations that share the same commitment to sustainability and to providing solutions aligned with the Universal Principles and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The priorities defined by Sofis Solutions as a result of its value chain analysis are centered on the following SDGs: SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 11, SDG 13, SDG 16, and SDG 17 (See Illustration 1: Sofis Solutions Initiatives 2021–2023).

Finally, the company reiterated its commitment to continue promoting good practices among its collaborators and stakeholders in order to achieve sustainable development. In doing so, it aims to incorporate a perspective that considers natural resource management, human quality of life, and the implementation of strategies aligned with the Universal Principles of the Global Compact, contributing to a more equitable, inclusive, and committed global market for building a more sustainable world for all.
