A decade measuring and demonstrating progress in sustainability through the Communication on Progress (CoP).

The Communication on Progress (CoP) is a tool that allows companies to measure and demonstrate their performance and progress regarding the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals. 


For the tenth consecutive year, Sofis Solutions presented its Communication on Progress (CoP), covering actions related to sustainability and governance for the year 2023, within the framework of its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact. 

Through the CoP digital platform, which includes a standardized questionnaire, the company reported its progress in the areas of Governance, Human Rights, Labor Standards, Environment, and Anti-Corruption. The progress in the following areas is highlighted: 

Governance

  • The company advanced in three items related to sustainability topics. The first was the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification, through UNIT Uruguay, which included a risk assessment, covering part of the value chain and defining actions. The second was the maintenance of the Anti-Bribery Management System, under ISO 37001:2016, where anti-bribery evaluations continue to be conducted with relevant stakeholders, among other actions covered by the standard. The third is the active ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification, which continues to improve work performance and address risks and opportunities according to context, achieving the company's objectives in this area. In this regard, in November 2023, the company received the National Quality Award granted by the National Institute of Quality of Uruguay – INACAL.
  • Regarding risk assessment processes, Sofis Solutions advanced in four items, continuing to analyze risks in the supply chain. Additionally, the company maintains an integral risk evaluation process, which involves assessing and defining a treatment strategy for each risk. 
  • In terms of due diligence processes, the company advanced in three items within the Anti-Bribery Management System, improving its scope. Furthermore, with the implementation of the Environmental Management System, a detailed analysis of the organization's environmental impact was initiated. 

Human Rights

  • In identifying aspects related to human rights, Sofis Solutions progressed in forming new partnerships, such as the one with Aldeas Infantiles Uruguay, where it supports young people in their independence process. Additionally, the company continued participating in external activities sharing its experience regarding gender equity issues. 

Labor Standards

  • Sofis Solutions advanced in two items related to preventing and mitigating risks and impacts associated with labor standards, including: providing training activities, workshops, and talks promoting employees’ mental and physical health by specialists, maintaining benefits for medical check-ups, among others.

Environment

  • In this area, the company has made progress in preventing/mitigating risks/impacts related to environmental matters. Highlights include the certification of its Environmental Management System.
  • Additional practical actions include: organizing the Sustainable Digital Transformation Days as part of the #GreenSofis initiative, developing internal training and internal/external communication on environmental topics, defining indicators related to environmental aspects, obtaining the Country Brand licensing from Uruguay XXI and LSQA. This licensing includes a sustainability axis for the company’s service development, and finally, the company continues maintaining its affiliation with the Green Software Foundation and Green Web Foundation.
  • To monitor the carbon footprint and control the use of natural resources, the company has developed its own tool to measure indicators according to international standards.

Anti-Corruption

  • Regarding progress in this area, periodic training continues to be provided to all employees, including professional service providers. Additionally, internal and external audits were conducted to evaluate the maturity of the Anti-Bribery Management System, achieving positive results. The company also continues participating in United Nations Global Compact meetings and internally organized the Sustainable Digital Transformation Days, addressing technology applications in anti-corruption and anti-bribery practices.

Laura Viré, Coordinator of Integrated Management Systems at Sofis Solutions, highlights that through the CoP, the company collects data and tracks progress to identify the advancement of sustainability objectives aligned with the Ten Principles and the achievement of SDG goals. “In the last period, notable practices included the Sustainable Digital Transformation Days, where ESG topics and their improvement through technology were addressed. We should also recognize the Environmental Management System certification as a goal achieved in 2023, and the formation of partnerships contributing to Human Rights, such as the partnership with Aldeas Infantiles Uruguay.”
