Workshop-Talk: How to Understand and Act in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Montevideo, January 3, 2022.

As part of its commitment to act in favor of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and to promote initiatives that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, Sofis Solutions held in December the workshop-talk: “How to Understand and Act in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. This space allowed the company’s employees to share an action plan focused on eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and promoting prosperity and well-being for all. The session was delivered by Paola Rapetti, Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact in Uruguay.

“The 2030 Agenda is a broad framework based on 17 Goals that address fundamental issues for countries, sectors, and organizations, aiming to contribute to improving people’s quality of life, the planet’s conditions, and its harmony for economic and social development, allowing countries to progress peacefully and prosperously for all,” stated Paola Rapetti during her presentation on the importance of the 2030 Agenda and why it is considered an invitation to generate structural transformations in the business sector and in the way business is conducted.

Through this workshop, Sofis Solutions employees learned the importance of adopting an approach based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles of the Global Compact, how companies can integrate the SDGs into their strategy and operations, the importance of prioritizing actions aligned with the SDGs, how to set ambitious targets and objectives, and why it is essential to report and communicate SDG contributions to stakeholders.

The United Nations Global Compact promotes large-scale collaboration at the corporate level, aiming to achieve and scale solutions that address global challenges. This initiative calls on companies and organizations to align their business strategies and operations with the Ten Universal Principles on human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption, while also contributing within their sphere of influence to achieving the SDG targets of the 2030 Agenda.

Progress in sustainability and SDG implementation requires the support of Local Networks that drive initiatives at the national level and help companies better understand how to promote sustainable development. In August 2021, the official launch of Global Compact Uruguay took place, seeking to create a collaborative space between the government and the private sector on various topics to design public policies and contribute to the country’s development strategy.
