The world demands sustainability, and companies have many ways to contribute.

Montevideo, December 27, 2023.

Sofis Solutions promotes projects, activities, and partnerships to contribute to a sustainable technology industry.

Meeting the needs of people without compromising the resources of future generations is what sustainable development means. States, companies, and non-governmental organizations have this topic on the agenda due to its significance for the planet's future, and because nowadays—more than ever—consumers of products and services seek and prefer to make sustainable choices.

Sustainability has become an increasingly important issue, requiring organizations to stay up to date with requirements and take action accordingly.

Within the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda, this is a central topic, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are aligned with it. Sofis Solutions, as a company committed to sustainability, has found in the SDGs a way to measure the impact of its actions.

Reducing energy consumption is essential

As a software and technology solutions developer, Sofis is committed to responsible practices that make its activities sustainable. Therefore, it implements several measures to, among other things, reduce energy consumption, which in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector represents 7% of the world's energy usage.

GreenSofis is an example of the company's pursuit of sustainability in its processes. The initiative promotes sustainable practices at the environmental, social, and governance levels, applied internally and across the products offered to clients.

In addition to this initiative, Sofis has committed to sustainability by promoting several activities and projects on the topic, such as the Sustainable Digital Transformation Workshops, which provide training and reflection opportunities for team members on sustainability and technology.

Sustainability in technology

The digitalization of processes, automation, and the use of technology across organizations contribute to sustainability. In this regard, Sofis has developed several projects, such as:

  • HUM Collaborative Geoplatform: The application promotes citizen participation in projects related to work, tourism, or the environment in central Uruguay, allowing residents to stay informed about regional changes that may affect local economies, water quality, or biodiversity.
  • Online procedures for DINAMA, Ministry of Environment: Sofis digitalized several procedures for Uruguay's National Directorate of Environment, speeding up processing times and expanding access to information. Tasks like obtaining hunting permits, authorizations for vehicle access to beach areas, cross-border waste transport approvals, or access to registers in protected areas can now be performed digitally.
  • Portal for the Labor Market Information System in El Salvador: To expand access to information and support entry into the labor market, Sofis developed a portal that compiles essential employment data. This portal helps reduce poverty, increase opportunities, and promote economic development.

All these projects support the SDGs related to ending poverty, zero hunger, health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action, among others—because sustainability is not just about the environment.

Strategic partnerships

Beyond initiatives for employees and project development, Sofis has formed strategic partnerships with organizations and initiatives linked to sustainability, understanding that collaborative work contributes to global improvement and strengthens commitments to sustainability.

One such partnership is with the Forward Faster initiative, promoted by the United Nations Global Compact, which works to achieve the SDGs.

Recognition

Recently, Sofis’ work toward sustainability was recognized, as the company received certification for its sustainable development practices.

Sofis’ Environmental Management System was certified under the ISO 14001 standard, which internationally recognizes the management of practices that contribute to the environment, sustainability-focused work plans, and the implementation of policies supporting the achievement of environmental goals.
