The use of ICT contributes to environmental conservation

Montevideo, June 8, 2021.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) generate countless benefits that improve people's quality of life, including economic growth, increased productivity, communication efficiency, and contribution to environmental conservation by reducing the consumption of natural resources through improved energy efficiency, sustainable use of resources, and promoting environmental protection activities.

Every June 5th, World Environment Day is commemorated, a date proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly aimed at raising global awareness about the importance of caring for natural resources and fostering respect for the environment.

This year, the central theme was "Reimagine, Recreate, Restore," a campaign focused on raising awareness among civil society, organizations, and governments to contribute to the environment and, in a way, make peace with nature to prevent climate catastrophe, stop the growing wave of pollution and waste, and halt biodiversity loss.

In this regard, Sofis Solutions has a firm commitment to reducing negative environmental impacts through actions that help preserve the proper use of natural resources.

Part of this commitment is reflected in the Environmental Policy that the organization promotes among its stakeholders, aiming to raise awareness that everyone can contribute within their sphere of influence through small actions. For more details, Sofis Solutions invites you to learn about the actions carried out during the 2019-2020 period in its Communication on Progress, presented to the United Nations Global Compact and aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Additionally, Sofis Solutions has developed projects related to the Environmental area, among which stand out:

  • DINAMA Laboratory Management System: The project aimed to build a full-web IT system that would automate the management processes of this institution and the issuance of reports. Additionally, functionalities were included for uploading data from external laboratories and interoperability with other areas of the institution.
  • Web Portal for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ecuador: This project involved the design and construction of a web platform created for the Technical Secretariat Planifica Ecuador and the Vice Presidency of the Republic. This tool focuses on providing citizens with information on the progress of the SDGs at the national level, as well as generating progress reports, statistics, news, a viewer of national initiatives (public and private), multimedia files, among others.

Finally, Sofis Solutions will continue generating actions related to improving consumption habits, caring for natural resources, and all environmental protection activities that contribute to a more sustainable present. Since protecting the environment requires the support of all members of society.
