Sofis Solutions supports the “Montevideo API Challenge 2021” initiative, organized by the IM

Montevideo, September 22, 2021.

Sofis Solutions is one of the official sponsors of the "Desafío Montevideo API 2021" contest, organized by the Montevideo City Hall (Intendencia de Montevideo, IM). This initiative is a participatory innovation mechanism that seeks to identify which city data could be transformed into a public good. To do so, participating teams must present a problem statement, a proposed solution, and the potential impact on citizens.

The "Desafío Montevideo API 2021" contest is an initiative organized by the Montevideo City Hall (IM), aiming to reward the three best innovation proposals for the creation of new digital services to be published on the IM’s open services portal, along with a software prototype using data published in Montevideo’s open data catalog. The contest is open to all Uruguayan citizens who wish to participate in either of the two categories: Innovative Idea and Prototype.

One of the sponsoring companies supporting this initiative is Sofis Solutions, which continues to reinforce its commitment to the Information and Communication Technology sector by promoting innovative technological solutions that contribute to improving people’s quality of life. As part of its support, Sofis Solutions decided to donate three laptops as prizes for the mentioned contest categories.

The objective of this contest is to generate online information services using existing data from the IM or new data sources, in order to understand firsthand which city data can be turned into a public good and made available for public access. Currently, Montevideo API offers two services: one related to public transportation and another to the sanitary status of the city's beaches.

So far, several teams have registered to participate in the "Desafío Montevideo API 2021" contest. On September 9, a virtual workshop was held to provide guidance and theoretical support for registered participants, offering insights on the formal aspects of proposal submissions in both categories.

It is worth noting that this contest aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and reflects the strategic objectives of Montevideo City Hall. These objectives focus on four main areas: environment (environmental sustainability), employment (promotion of employment and quality job functions), mobility (connected, fluid, inclusive, and healthy mobility), and social vulnerability (actions to ensure equality for individuals and communities whose rights have been violated).

Those interested in participating in the contest still have time to submit their proposals, as the deadline is Thursday, September 30, 2021. Winners will be eligible for prizes such as equipment, mentorship, job opportunities, and sponsorships for the best innovative ideas and software prototypes.
