Sofis Solutions is participating in the SDG Ambition Accelerator program

Montevideo, November 5, 2021.

The SDG Ambition Accelerator program is an initiative that challenges and supports companies adhering to the United Nations Global Compact to set ambitious corporate goals and targets, with the aim of accelerating the integration of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The program seeks to drive transformative change, build business resilience, and enable long-term growth.

The UN Global Compact's SDG Accelerator, "SDG Ambition," was launched by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in January 2020 during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum held in Davos Klosters, Switzerland. The UN Secretary-General emphasized the importance of this new initiative that combines ambition and private sector integration to progressively advance toward achieving the 2030 Agenda. This is done through the establishment of goals and objectives in areas with the greatest business impact related to the SDGs, and by integrating sustainable development into business management processes.

SDG Ambition is a program divided into 3 modules and runs for six months. It is free and exclusive to companies participating in the UN Global Compact, who must meet certain criteria. These include being engaged with a local Global Compact network in their region (or willing to join), committing to strengthening target-setting and action to advance the SDGs, and appointing two representatives to participate in the program’s activities, as well as an executive-level ambassador to oversee the program's progression.

Sofis Solutions is one of the companies participating in this global initiative and is committed to developing and implementing strategies and solutions that contribute to sustainability and reinforce the company’s Vision 2025, aimed at transformative change. The company has been a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact since 2013, basing its operations on principles of Social Responsibility (SR) aligned with the Universal Principles of the Global Compact, the alignment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, and the involvement of the entire organization to comply with these principles and pursue the achievement of the SDGs.

In addition, since 2020, the company has adopted the SDG Compass methodology, which provides a guide to help private sector companies understand how to align their strategies, and to measure and manage their contribution to the SDGs. The guide is based on five steps that help businesses maximize their contribution to the 2030 Agenda.

The accelerator began in October of this year with a welcome session and includes various capacity-building workshops among peers and on-demand sessions led by experts. These experts support participating companies in defining, managing, and monitoring the progress of their ambitious SDG objectives.

The SDG Ambition program is delivered by the United Nations Global Compact through its Academy, which enhances knowledge and capabilities to approach sustainability management differently depending on the business sector, and to design new systems that integrate the SDGs.
