Sofis Solutions participated in the 2021 Digital Signature Summit.

Montevideo, May 27, 2021.

Sofis Solutions participated in the virtual event "Digital Signature Summit 2021," the Latin American congress that brought together international experts from the Digital Signature industry. Martín Vilche, Infrastructure and Support Coordinator at Sofis Solutions, addressed the topic: "Simple and Advanced Electronic Signature: Two Use Cases," in which he presented the case of the MEF in Uruguay and the case of the MINED in El Salvador.

Last Thursday, May 20, Martín Vilche, Infrastructure and Support Coordinator at Sofis Solutions, participated in the Digital Signature Summit 2021 – Latin American Congress of the Digital Signature Industry. This event was held within the framework of the launch of VaFirma, which is an integral solution that manages any digital signature with legal validity. The congress featured various international Digital Signature experts who delivered more than 15 presentations across 3 parallel tracks (Regulators, Certification Authorities, and Use Cases).

Martín Vilche shared the presentation "Simple and Advanced Electronic Signature: Two Use Cases". In it, he presented the use case of Advanced Electronic Signature at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uruguay (MEF), which incorporated this type of signature for modifications to the National Budget. For this, Sofis Solutions and the MEF began working in 2011 on a solution called GEMAP (Management System for Budget Allocation Modifications), which manages all requests for budget modifications sent by various organizations to the MEF.

"During the execution of this project, several challenges were faced, including: digitizing all documents created by different organizations and then centralizing them into one system, the legal validity of these documents within Uruguayan territory, system adoption by users, and finally the automation of the document handling process (…) The GEMAP project solved various problems related to user operation, from how documents were created to how they were transferred (…) Now, the operation of this procedure is simpler and easier using the electronic signature," commented Martín Vilche.

The second case presented, regarding Simple Electronic Signature, is at the Ministry of Education of El Salvador (MINED), within the framework of the SIGES project (Information System for Salvadoran Educational Management), where Sofis Solutions developed a solution to address how to create and sign internal documents handled by educational centers, departmental offices, and the MINED central offices.

According to Martín Vilche: "For this case, it was proposed to incorporate a Simple Electronic Signature because these were internal documents that only have validity within MINED (…) An important point is that a Simple Signature can be of various types (username and password, digital autograph signature, and PIN). For the MINED case, the mechanism of Digital Certificate was proposed and decided upon, where users have their own certificate in the system and can sign documents with that certificate issued by the MINED Certification Authority (CA).”
