The Coordinator of Integrated Management Systems at Sofis Solutions, Laura Viré, shared in an interview the company’s experience on how the transversal application of technology contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, through projects that have had a positive impact across Latin America. The interview was broadcast on the RSE Portal section of the program Buscadores, aired on Canal 5 in Uruguay, VTV, and via YouTube.
Laura Viré shared Sofis Solutions’ experience in sustainability and how technology positively impacts achieving the SDGs. The interview was conducted by the host of the RSE Portal section, Leonardo Melchiori, who explored how technology is transversal in addressing issues related to Education and Gender.
In which areas does Sofis Solutions work, and how do they create a positive impact?
“We work across most areas of knowledge. As we know, technology is present in all fields and is transversal. We can create impact depending on the project or service we are working on and, in turn, contribute to the various targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.”
Which projects have you worked on focusing on Education and Gender?
“In the area of Education, we implemented a large-scale project in El Salvador: the Salvadoran Educational Management Information System (SIGES). This system contributes to overall management at both departmental and national levels. It collects data from educational centers to generate indicators used for improving or creating public policies based on administrative records. This project has social impact at both the school and national level.”
“Another project is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) web portal in Ecuador, managed by the Technical Secretariat Planifica Ecuador and the Vice Presidency of the Republic. This portal is transversal to all SDGs, where initiatives aligned with the SDG targets are uploaded. For example, in sanitation, the portal tracks efforts, the goals they contribute to, and the relevant SDG. According to SDG 6 performance indicators, since March 2016, Ecuador has worked with UNICEF on implementation and monitoring the quality of water and sanitation services. One indicator, households with access to basic sanitation, was 85.9% nationally in 2016 and 90.7% in March 2019; in rural areas, it was 80.4% in 2016 and 86.3% in 2019.”
“This portal is freely accessible, allowing users to find information about progress in Ecuador and monitor the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.”
How does the company act as an accelerator of different programs, and what actions are being taken in these areas (Education and Gender)?
“Recently, we joined the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Through them, we have guidance and orientation for planning activities, modifying processes, and implementing new processes in the organization to improve in this area. At Sofis Solutions, we have been working on gender-related actions, and these Principles allow us to formalize them and share experiences with other organizations or stakeholders.”
Additionally, Laura Viré emphasized that, besides being committed to generating social and environmental impact, the company works on Anti-Corruption issues, sharing experiences on implementing and obtaining ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System certification through webinars and working groups. The interview is available on the Buscadores YouTube channel: RSE Portal Interview.
