International Mother Earth Day

San Salvador, April 22, 2020.

The United Nations General Assembly designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day through a resolution adopted in 2009, recognizing the Earth and its ecosystems as our home. To achieve a fair balance between economic, social, and environmental needs, it is essential to promote harmony with nature and the planet.

The primary objective of this day is to raise awareness in society about the environmental issues and challenges we face, including overpopulation, pollution, and biodiversity conservation, among other concerns.

In this regard, Sofis Solutions considers it fundamental to contribute through actions that support sustainable development. Therefore, it promotes the use of electronic documentation to reduce or eliminate paper usage, as well as the sustainable use of resources such as water and electricity.

Additionally, Sofis Solutions takes actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically those related to the environment, as part of its corporate social responsibility:

  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: The company regularly promotes the responsible use of water through indicators that help monitor water consumption.
  • SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: Sofis Solutions uses energy-efficient equipment (air conditioners and refrigerators) and data centers connected to The Green Grid (a global consortium of companies and professionals working to reduce energy consumption in data centers).
  • SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: The company carries out waste sorting and treatment activities, reduces energy consumption by using energy-efficient devices, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions by using eco-friendly air conditioners.
  • SDG 13 – Climate Action: Sofis implements actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using eco-friendly air conditioners and integrating electronic reporting into its developed applications.

For these reasons, Sofis Solutions has adopted an environmental policy as part of its commitment to reducing negative environmental impacts through the proper use of resources and environmental protection activities.

This environmental policy includes the following points:

  • Monitor and promote the conservation of energy and natural resources (e.g., by regulating the use of water, electricity, and non-recycled paper printing).
  • Encourage the digital transformation of organizations to reduce or eliminate paper usage and participate in relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Promote the use of recycled or recyclable materials.
  • Reduce and recycle waste generated by company activities.
  • Strictly comply with current environmental regulations.
  • Reduce the use and external emission of polluting components and products, with the goal of preventing all types of pollution and combating the greenhouse effect.
  • Promote activities among the organization’s stakeholders to reduce the negative environmental impact that company operations may generate.
  • Apply continuous improvement in environmental management.

Finally, Sofis Solutions invites individuals and organizations to be part of the generation that drives change by adopting good practices—ranging from switching incandescent bulbs to energy-saving ones, promoting reforestation and recycling, to reducing plastic consumption, among other actions.
