International Anti-Corruption Day: a date to discuss the importance of being transparent

Montevideo, December 8, 2023.

December 9 marks International Anti-Corruption Day.

At the business, governmental, and organizational levels, being transparent is synonymous with honesty and fair agreements, fostering genuine and sincere alliances, which ultimately translates into positive results and relationships.

Transparency is the foundation of anti-corruption efforts, and it is also one of the key ideas highlighted each December 9, the date designated as International Anti-Corruption Day by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about this issue, which generates significant social challenges.

This year marks 20 years since the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, an international alliance involving the World Economic Forum, which over time has become the leading platform for combating corruption. This convention is the only anti-corruption instrument that legally binds organizations worldwide and, since its creation, has gathered 190 parties committed to obligations to prevent and combat corruption.

This year, International Anti-Corruption Day emphasizes the connection between the fight against corruption and the pursuit of peace, security, and societal development, achieved globally through the commitment of both public and private organizations. These efforts occur in a world affected by political and armed conflicts, making this a crucial moment to highlight anti-corruption efforts.

Sofis Solutions supports the fight against corruption from its foundation, with an anti-bribery policy that spans all areas of the company, its employees, and client relationships, recognizing that transparency is a tool to improve governance and, consequently, the quality of life in countries.

In 2019, Sofis became the first Uruguayan company certified with an Anti-Bribery Management System, an innovation for the national business ecosystem.

Sofis Solutions’ anti-bribery policy is a core part of the company, its processes, and development plans, and is embedded in the organizational culture.

This policy aligns with the commitments of the United Nations Global Compact, which Sofis Solutions adheres to, particularly Principle 10, which states that "businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery". The policy focuses on corruption prevention, which is fundamental for supporting the goals outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sofis is part of Forward Faster, a UN Global Compact initiative that accelerates progress toward achieving the SDGs, and within this framework, the company has committed to anti-corruption measures.
