December 10: International Human Rights Day

Montevideo, December 10, 2019.

Human Rights Day is celebrated every December 10th, the date when the General Assembly promulgated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This historic document was a proclamation of the inalienable rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birthplace, or any other status.

Sofis Solutions joined the celebration of this important day, which we uphold throughout the year. Through various systems we develop, we directly contribute to Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which establishes the right to education.

In this regard, Sofis works on the implementation of systems that currently contribute to education in Uruguay and El Salvador. In this note, we present some of them:

  • The Information System for Salvadoran Educational Management (SIGES) is responsible for simplifying the collection and monitoring of data from the national education system of El Salvador and modernizing the information system used by the Ministry of Education of El Salvador for decision-making, planning, design, and implementation of educational projects at the national level.
  • Gurí is a centralized information system that allows Unified Management of Information Records for ANEP/CEIP in Uruguay. This system improves the condition of student and teacher databases, the obtaining of statistical data at the national level, as well as the monitoring and control of mandatory student attendance. The software helps reduce task times and allows staff and school leaders to focus on pedagogical activities.
  • Vía Trabajo is a success story where a contribution was made to education. This system brings together job seekers and employers in a single application, connecting them with a search engine that finds the best options for each. Through this system developed by Sofis, training courses from INEFOP or other training entities are also offered, providing more and better tools to people.
  • Within Ceibal there are many systems developed, such as the auto-schedule for online computational thinking classes for public school students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. The system checks if the school has rooms available for videoconferencing or the necessary technology, optimizing resources and class schedules. Another example is the anti-plagiarism API, used by several applications to ensure that submitted documents are not copies of other documents already uploaded on the internet.

These are some of the systems developed at Sofis Solutions that work in favor of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." Sofis contributes to this SDG through these systems in both Uruguay and El Salvador.

Through the various projects carried out by Sofis Solutions, real impacts are achieved at the educational and social levels, such as collaboration in decision-making by educational authorities based on indicators and statistics obtained to make efficient use of resources. In addition, access is granted to parents for information on attendance, grades, and relevant communications for students' families, among others.
