Montevideo, November 29, 2022.
The DERES Best Practices awards are granted to organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating good practices into their core business, they are positioned as leaders and sustainability benchmarks in their sectors.
On November 17, DERES held its annual conference under the theme “Actions for a Sustainable Future.” A space that fosters the exchange of sustainability experiences and reflection on the challenges faced by Sustainable Development.
The event brought together leaders from Uruguay and representatives from different sectors, including the DERES business network, government authorities, and civil society. During the event, social, environmental, and governance topics were addressed, and DERES awards were presented to the best business practices that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Among the award-winning companies was Sofis Solutions, recognized in the Compliance category for its practice “Gender approach in the Anti-Bribery Management System.” The award was presented by Carolina Devoto, executive director of DERES, and Lorena Lamas, specialist in Sustainable Finance and Economic Empowerment at UN Women, and received by Laura Viré, coordinator of Integrated Management Systems at Sofis Solutions.
The practice developed by Sofis Solutions focuses on incorporating a gender perspective into its Anti-Bribery Management System. This includes, among other elements, considering different items in bribery risk analysis, such as: risk of exclusion of one gender over another implying some form of bribery, risk of gender-based criminalization or extortion, reduction of gender gaps (as a positive risk), among others.
In addition, one of its objectives is to include the gender and bribery approach in the training process for employees, as well as the dissemination of bribery risk analysis results with a gender perspective among stakeholders.
Applying a gender perspective to a management system (particularly anti-bribery) makes it possible to visualize data and information that impacts people’s quality of life, including differences and vulnerabilities in human rights, discrimination, access to justice, and essential public services.
This is aligned with SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. In this way, the goal is to promote equitable and fair gender relations, leaving no one behind. Likewise, it seeks to raise awareness and inspire more organizations to align their strategic plans with the progress of Sustainable Development.
