On June 1 and 2, 2022, the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit was held, an event that brings together business leaders with a vision for achieving a sustainable future. The event focused on collective and individual evaluation of progress toward sustainability; and at the conclusion of the summit, the SDG Pioneers 2022 were recognized—business leaders working exceptionally to promote and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Every year, the United Nations Global Compact recognizes ten business leaders from different regions of the world with the SDG Pioneers award. These leaders demonstrate their work and commitment to building a sustainable future aligned with the SDGs through the implementation of the UN Global Compact Ten Principles, covering Human Rights, Labor Standards, Environment, and Anti-Corruption.
Among the SDG Pioneers 2022, the work and commitment of Ing. Gustavo Cirigliano, CEO of Sofis Solutions, were recognized. He was named “SDG Pioneer for Decent Work” for demonstrating the progress Sofis Solutions is making to improve people’s quality of life, ensuring access to social protection, reducing inequalities, and promoting initiatives such as the “Sofis My First Job Program”, which provides employment opportunities to young people seeking their first experience in the IT sector, as well as developing technological tools through projects that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
“This recognition… motivates the entire team to continue on this path of commitment and, in a way, demonstrates the success of our organizational strategy aligned with the SDGs. It also allows us to continue raising awareness about the importance of the SDGs nationally and regionally, as well as to strengthen and create new partnerships,” said Ing. Gustavo Cirigliano.
He added: “We must understand that the SDGs allow us to align with their targets practically, understanding that all problems are interconnected and must be addressed by all countries… They give us a global vision of what we must achieve, enabling us to work on them in a focused, balanced, and measurable way.”
Sandra Ojiambo, UN Global Compact Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director, stated: “Companies have a crucial role to play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and improving our world. Global challenges—from food, climate, and water crises to poverty, conflict, and inequality—require solutions that the private sector can help provide. These exceptional professionals, this year’s SDG Pioneers, demonstrate exactly what companies can do to make a difference not just for shareholders but for society at large.”
The SDG Pioneers 2022 initiative aims to inspire business leaders to join and create transversal impact aligned with the United Nations goals. In this 2022 edition, business leaders were recognized from China, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Bulgaria, Singapore, Uruguay, the Netherlands, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Ukraine.
