Montevideo, November 22, 2024.

After two days of presentations where speakers shared practices, trends, and experiences related to sustainability and technology, Sofis Solutions concluded the 3rd Edition of the Sustainable Digital Transformation Conference.

On November 13 and 14, Sofis Solutions held the 3rd Edition of the Sustainable Digital Transformation Conference, with a central theme focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across multiple dimensions of sustainability. This annual event featured a series of talks by external guests and company collaborators, aimed at reflecting on how AI can drive sustainability.

Topics Addressed on Day Two

On the second conference day, topics included AI-driven project management, integrating sustainability in management systems, applying Sustainable Software Engineering at Sofis Solutions through GreenCode, strategies to avoid planned obsolescence in interface design, and #GreenSofis – 2025 Plan alongside new standards.

AI-Driven Project Management

The first presentation was led by the Project Management Office (PMO) team and focused on “AI-driven project management.” Marisa Cancela, Services Coordinator, explained how AI can optimize planning and execution processes through intelligent interaction.

To demonstrate this, she shared two examples:

Gilberto Mendoza, Services Coordinator, then presented a case study titled “PMI Infinity with an emphasis on sustainability.” During his talk, he illustrated various examples of how this platform can be used to identify SDGs related to projects, assess initial risks, and recommend integrating sustainability requirements into planning and execution stages.

Finally, Cecilia Martínez, Services Coordinator, presented on “The use of AI in project management at Sofis Solutions.” She described how semantic searches are currently conducted across sources like lessons learned, manuals, and process documents. She also mentioned plans to develop an AI tool trained using the company’s methodology to support activity estimation and generate project‑specific risk insights.

Sustainability in Management Systems

In the afternoon’s second session, Laura Viré, Coordinator of Sustainable Integrated Management Systems, discussed “Integrating sustainability into management systems.” She explained how sustainable practices are incorporated, how SDGs are embedded into management systems, and how a quality model with a sustainability dimension is applied.

Viré emphasized: “Embedding sustainability in management systems allows us to execute and transform practices through a preventive, formalized, systematic, and continuous improvement approach—making it easier to evaluate outcomes and assess impacts.”

She also presented a timeline of achievements and recognitions related to sustainability and management system initiatives. Key milestones included:

These were some of the topics covered on the second day of the Conference. The next article will discuss Sustainable Software Engineering applications at Sofis Solutions through GreenCode, strategies to avoid planned obsolescence in interface design, and #GreenSofis – 2025 Plan along with new standards.
