The DIREPRO Tumbes Digital IT system will allow fishermen, aquaculture producers, and micro and small business owners to carry out various procedures and services through the online channels of the Regional Directorate of Production (DIREPRO) Tumbes. This project contributes to the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to improve services provided to stakeholders in the region.
Today, representatives of the project “Coastal Fisheries Initiative – Latin America,” part of the Global Coastal Fisheries Initiative (CFI), held the event “Dissemination of Results of the CFI – LA Project,” where they presented results and the potential impact of the project to different stakeholders in the artisanal fishing sector in the Tumbes region of Peru.
This project is a joint effort of fisheries and environmental authorities from Ecuador and Peru, with technical cooperation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the implementing agency of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The initiative has been developed to demonstrate holistic processes and promote more integrated approaches for the inclusive management and use of coastal fisheries.
As part of the project outcomes, and to strengthen artisanal fisheries management in Tumbes, the “Process Management IT System for the Regional Directorate of Production (DIREPRO) Tumbes”, known as DIREPRO Tumbes Digital, was presented. The system enables management of procedures and services in the fishing and aquaculture sector, streamlining response times and improving the services and information provided to citizens and organizations. Additionally, DIREPRO staff will use the system to manage and consult information related to user-submitted procedures.
DIREPRO Tumbes Digital was implemented under the “Coastal Fisheries Initiative – Latin America”, led by the Ministry of Environment of Peru, with the participation of the Ministry of Production and the Regional Governments of Tumbes and Piura as implementing partners, and with technical cooperation from UNDP as the GEF implementing agency.
The IT solution features 7 modules encompassing over 30 procedures and services corresponding to the online offices: Directorate of Aquaculture, Directorate of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance, Directorate of Extraction and Fish Processing, Directorate of Micro and Small Enterprises and Industry, and Directorate of Environment. It is estimated that more than 4,000 people will use this solution, resulting in time and resource savings. Furthermore, it contributes to environmental protection by avoiding the use of more than 30,000 sheets of paper annually.
The purpose of this system is to improve communication between DIREPRO and its users, providing more effective updates regarding the status of their requests. The system aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, specifically SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
