San Salvador, November 28, 2018.
Authorities from the Ministry of Education (MINED), FOMILENIO II, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) participated this morning in the official launch of the Information System for Salvadoran Educational Management (SIGES), which simplifies the collection and monitoring of data from the national education system and modernizes the current information system used by MINED for decision-making, planning, design, and implementation of educational projects nationwide.
The Executive Director of FOMILENIO II, Mr. William Pleités, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of building a system with these characteristics for the future of El Salvador.
The Country Resident Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Ms. Martha Keays, emphasized the need for an information system that enables data acquisition for decision-making.
Following this, a video was presented showing what SIGES is and the progress made to date.
What is SIGES?
Engineer José Antonio Pineda gave a live presentation of SIGES, showcasing functionalities for managing educational centers and students. The closing was led by the Minister of Education, Carlos Canjura, who highlighted that "the idea is to have a system that allows timely decision-making; initially, we will start by establishing this system regarding students, and it will be for both the public and private education systems." He emphasized the importance of the involvement of the entire Ministry, educational centers, principals, and teachers. SIGES is part of the consultancy "Design and implementation of an educational information system for the Ministry of Education," funded by FOMILENIO II for the Republic of El Salvador.
