New website of the National Institute of Statistics

Montevideo, October 1, 2015.

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has been using its website for over 15 years as a means to disseminate statistical indicators and technical documents that are prepared based on survey information and have official status.

Over time, this structure has diversified into new actions that stem from surveys and projects with different communication needs.

The project aimed to design a new structure for the INE Web portal that achieves better navigability, interactivity, usability, flexibility, and adaptability to various mobile devices (Responsive Web Design), as well as enabling the incorporation of new content in the future.

One of the main objectives was that the design of the portal comply with the WCAG AA Web Accessibility Guidelines, as established by the Accessibility Statement.

The National Institute of Statistics is a public organization tasked with the preparation, supervision, and coordination of national statistics.

Its first antecedent was the Statistical Board attached to the Ministry of Finance, created by Decree on November 25, 1852. This Board was transformed into the General Statistics Directorate still in the 19th century, while Law No. 11,923 of March 27, 1953 assigned it a new name: General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses. Forty years later, by virtue of Article 70 of Law No. 16,320, from January 1, 1993, the Institute took its current name."
