The first phase of implementation of the Information System for Salvadoran Educational Management (SIGES) concluded on March 31, with over one million enrolled students and more than 1,400 trainings conducted for trainers.
Engineer Fátima Rodríguez, Manager of the Digital Transformation Unit at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, highlighted the enrollment process in SIGES: "the promptness with which the initial 2019 enrollment data has been obtained, as we expected to have complete enrollment by early April, which will allow us to have a very close estimate of educational statistics much earlier than in previous years."
"It is allowing us to update and clean our database of educational centers according to the reality of educational services being provided across the territory. We are ensuring that each student has only one active enrollment, which has allowed us to identify special situations regarding NIE records that originated in previous systems. This is the first time that we will have student enrollment data registered in a single database, including initial education, accelerated education, special education, flexible modalities, and the regular system, which will give us a comprehensive view of the education system from early childhood to secondary education," stated Engineer Rodríguez.
The tool will allow teachers to simplify their work in recording and preparing school performance reports, facilitating the issuance of certificates and promotion charts. It will also include online procedures starting in the second quarter of 2019, enabling citizens to initiate processes such as document authentication, grade certifications, high school diploma management, among others.
